Angela Bassett & Loretta Devine Discuss Available Industry Roles For Black Actors! (Video)

by INN THE BASEMENT on March 1, 2011

Angela Bassett and Loretta Devine were celebrated at the Essence Women’s Luncheon, and they discussed that issue that has come up time and time again in Black Hollywood – where is the work??

Most times now, the public is seeing singers in place of actors in movies, many times not doing a tremendous job at all!  Other times, such as another honoree at the Essence Luncheon Jennifer Hudson, she has done amazing as both actor and singer, gifted in a broad range.

Angela Bassett whom I personally have always felt hasn’t gotten the full of what she deserves period talks to not be negative despite what is going on because there are still plenty of opportunities available if one just keeps their eyes open.  Angela and Loretta Devine also talked how important it is for youngsters to still see what Essence has provided over so many years – success in women of color!  AMEN!!  Essence rocks!  LOVE THEM!

Both Angela Bassett and Loretta Devine are starring in the new movie Jumping The Broom releasing to theaters on May 6th, co produced by TD Jakes!
