Reagan Gomez Speaks The White/Black, Actor/Musician Double Standard In Hollywood

by INN THE BASEMENT on July 27, 2009

“If Hollywood would rather hire, a MUSICIAN, because they know this person has a set fan base, as opposed to an ACTRESS, then, there goes the work for actress. Plus, Hollywood thinks, no one is interested in seeing new black, FEMALE faces on the big screen. But they’ll hire new white faces and new black males all the time. Double standard.” – Reagan Gomez Preston from her celebrity blog!

Reagan Gomez… her films are Love Don’t Cost A Thing, Hair Show, and Jerry Maguire just to name drop a few of them, and one must say that she has skills in front of the camera.  There is a bit of an issue that Reagan Gomez brought to the table, and she isn’t alone.  Nia Long said the same type of thing and that has to do with the fact that musicians get a big ole hefty pie of the actor’s job.  At this, neither lady is happy! Reagan Gomez  (Reagan Gomez-Preston) decided she needed to talk it up some more.

Black Hollywood has apparently shown Reagan a good and bad side, and when it comes to the down side, where is all the work for the black actress?  According to Reagan, they could all be chasing a job that might just be given to…well…a singer.

That has to be tough, but it is true, especially for the black actor.  Not saying that a person can’t be multi-talented at all, however, when the actresses such as Reagan and Nia speak about the issue…they at least want a fair shot instead of going against a fan base for music.

On the other hand, why are the black actresses being overlooked?  As Reagan says it, white actresses and black male actors are well taken care of, but what becomes of the black actress after ten years?  Shouldn’t they be better at their game?  Yes, but you wouldn’t know it as you can’t even find them!  If you can find them, however, they are probably acting along side DMX (Reagan Gomez in Never Die Alone) or Ice Cube(Nia Long in Are We There Yet?) On Ice Cube’s side though, he can act!  DMX well, not quite.  Could these ladies both be talking about Beyonce’?  Hmmm.

Looks like the black actress according to not just one black actress is having a harder time than most celebs in Hollywood…besides well Lindsay Lohan.  She just got some work…didn’t she?
