The fact of the matter is that Nick Cannon truly loves his wife, Mariah Carey, and it is a real man that defends his wife when the time comes. HOWEVER, with the performance that Mariah Carey gave at Michael Jackson’s memorial, he should not have said one word. Okay, so Mariah Carey can sing no doubt, but on the other hand, she didn’t do so great at the memorial for a professional singer.
Nick Cannon states: “It’s one of those things where nervous isn’t even a word because no one is ever prepared or emotionally or physically to be able to go on stage whether it’s one person or one million people.
“You’re never prepared to go up and have to sing and at the same time mourn a friend. You never know what’s going to happen. It’s definitely one of those things where we just said a prayer, you know, left it all in God’s hands and let it happen.”
Much of what Nick says is true – it’s in God’s hands and say a prayer. Nerves do play a major part in any performance. There is a but. BUT why did just about every other professional singer sound terrific? Usher even walked up and let his fingers glide across Michael Jackson’s casket while staring the Jacksons – all of them – in the face. Then he took off his shades while crying. Stevie Wonder created a wonder on stage, and the man who was mourning the most – Jermaine Jackson, Michael’s brother, was exceptional as he sang Smile.
All this said, Mariah sounded better than most people could sound on a good day, but it seems like it was maybe something a bit different than mourning or nerves. Maybe more like she simply messed up. Period. But then again, people handle it differently.
