The last thing that a person would like to have on their thoughts is the destruction that an earthquake has or will bring to any place on the face of this earth. Not simply a shake or a faint rumble, the earthquakes of 2008 have damaged communities and taken lives.
One of the most recent occured on Sunday of about 6.1 in magnitude and registering a 6.5 on the Richter in Greece leaving 2 people dead and many other injured while being trapped underneath heavy debris. One of the 2 dead died as the place he used for shelter and safety, his home, caved in on him.
The people of Greece are fortunate that more did not die being that this isn't the worst disaster coming from a quake that has hit them. Many more have perished due to the shaking of ground beneath their feet in Greece. That number in the hundreds when we remember a quake of 1999.
China is another country still suffering from a terrible quake that left thousands upon thousands dead in May 2008.
So what causes the earth to tremble? Some say that it is a stress reliever for the planet that happens when plates move together and the stress from that breaks the lithosphere, creating energy that then moves the earth. So is there any way to keep the earth from stressing? Possibly not.
May God strenghten the families having to cope with loss from these tragedies.
