Marion Jones "Please Forgive Me"

Marion Jones, originally uploaded by The Jeff Selis.

"I recognize that by saying I'm deeply sorry, it might not be enough and sufficient to address the pain and hurt that I've caused you," Jones said. "Therefore, I want to ask for your forgiveness for my actions, and I hope you can find it in your heart to forgive me."

Unfortunate to the world of sports, a woman who won numerous medals has admitted to the usage of steroids. Marion Jones, the woman who won 1st place in the 2000 Summer Olympics for the 100 m and 200m in Sydney, Australia and also 1st place at the IAAF World Cup for the 100m, not to mention some of her best records in Johanesburg, South Africa of 10.65A and 21.62A in 1998, she has gone on to ask the world for forgiveness. One of the most humble things to do...filled with courage...to admit her guilt after so long, face the shame, and at last clear her conscience before the world and God. This is good.

Her past actions were not so good, however. The world of sports was denied the truth for years and the true winners not given their due. Those who worked hard without the use of performance inhancing drugs. Hopefully, they will accept her apology and forgive.

In life, we all make terrible mistakes and horrible choices. All of our choices come with consequences...nope the consequences don't just poof and disappear!  The law is the law.  However, the truth of the matter is this...

Who will cast the first stone?

It won't be me. We all need help, we all fall short...some in worse ways than others. The actions she took were selfish and totally wrong, but she was able to do the hardest thing...ask the world for forgiveness. We know the world is hardcore. She will face consequences, however, hopefully, her concluding honesty will show the way to more athletes who are decieving the world of sports.

Again, who will cast the first stone? Has anyone reading this lied before? We forgive you too. Have to. INN THE BASEMENT has no rocks to throw. Peace!

I have seen the public apologies that Marion has given, and I'm not convinced that she is sincere, just because her apology seems to stagger on.
